State address: 'The work of building Zambia is just beginning'

In a landmark address to the nation, President Hakainde Hichilema emphasized that while significant progress has been made, the journey toward a fully transformed Zambia has only just begun.

Addressing a joint session of Parliament, the President reflected on the milestones achieved since 2021, including the successful restructuring of national debt and the implementation of universal free education.

Resilience and Reform

"We inherited a nation in crisis, but together, we have restored stability," the President said. "Our inflation is down, our currency is stabilizing, and our children are in school. These are not just statistics; they are the foundations of a new Zambia."

However, he warned against complacency, noting that global economic headwinds and climate change remain significant challenges. He outlined a ten-point plan for the 2026-2031 period, focused on "Aggressive Industrialization" and "Universal Energy Access."

Empowering the Local Economy

The President announced a significant increase in the CDF for the next fiscal year, aimed at decentralizing development further. "Development must be felt in the village, not just the city. Our people must lead the change in their own communities."

The address concluded with a call to national unity, urging Zambians to reject tribalism and embrace the spirit of 'One Zambia, One Nation' as the bedrock of future prosperity.
