President Hakainde Hichilema Biography

President Hakainde Hichilema, widely known as HH, was sworn in as the 7th President of the Republic of Zambia on 24 August 2021 — a victory celebrated as a triumph of democracy across Africa.

A successful businessman and economist by training, HH built his career on the foundations of discipline, integrity, and service. His vision is a Zambia where every child, regardless of birth, has the same shot at a dignified life.

As President, he has stabilised the economy, restored international confidence, restructured Zambia's debt, and reopened pathways to investment, jobs, and opportunity for all Zambians.

Born in Monze, Southern Province, into a family of farmers.

1986

Graduated University of Zambia, BA in Economics & Business Administration.

1994

Earned MBA from the University of Birmingham, UK.

2006

Entered politics, contesting the presidency for the first time.
